New York City: The World Trade Center Site

I know that everyone has their own 9-11 story and some stories are more horrific than others and some more courageous than others but I clearly remember that day as though it was yesterday. When it happened, I was working at a private college in downtown Ottawa, Canada’s capital. I worked blocks from the parliament buildings and I was in a high-risk area.
I remember working at the front desk and one of our teachers running out, telling me to pull up CNN on my computer as there was a terrorist attack in NYC. I was shaking when I pulled it up and as I watched the coverage on my computer, alarms started going off in our building and in the downtown core. We were evacuated immediately due to the closeness of our nation’s parliamentary headquarters.
Our vehicle was almost stuck in an underground parking garage and fear and pandimonium struck the downtown core. We headed out of downtown not knowing what happened in New York City but being afraid of what could happen here in our own city. I was glued to the television for days.
What happened in NYC on September 11 was a horrible tragedy and on the one year anniversary, I made an attempt to go to New York City to help out as a volunteer doing whatever I could. I was unable to make it and I wish every single day that I had been there to help when I was needed.
To those who lost lives in this tragedy, rest in peace. To the families and friends of the departed, you have Canadians praying for you.

New York City: The Statue of Liberty

While in New York City with my husband Steve, we visited The Statue of Liberty. We took the ferry out and since it was February, we had a very cold yet exciting boat ride out to the island. I was able to get some great shots and make the acquaintance of a pigeon.

This lovely pigeon sat on my foot.

Cold but loving NYC…

Finally! We make it to the Lady Liberty herself.

A closeup…

Leaving Lady Liberty to head back to Manhattan.
